Bye, Bye

Yeah! I did it, finally finished. This has been a really great journey, discovering new things/tools that I really never thought about or expected to be out there. There have been some ups and downs along the way too, but I just kept plodding along and I got there - unlike some others ( including work mates).

Rotoura Public Library network is very impressive and shows great example of how libraries can utilize this tool.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving me this great opportunity to learn so much and how to use so many different tools.

Second last blog (but I'm not counting)

GOOGLE DOCS & ZOHO
Wow!These are online applications/tolls that I did
not know existed.
Google docs is great. I found Google docs. easier to
navigate than Zoho. I had fun using the features of
this site. Now that I have found Google docs., the
use will be unlimited, for home (as well as work - I suppose).
This tool provides one source for multi-users for a
combonation of work practises. We work a Co-op system
and this tool could be used by all the libraries to add their
deleted & new stock too - then we would have just one "mailing"
list instead of several, this could work as a great advantage.
The libraries could also collaborate their meeting details.
This also allows libraries and external groups to share information
when they don't have compatiable systems, eg. Armidale branch of Australian
Children's Book Council & Friends of the Library.

SLIDESHARE
I'm hooked.
This site also has many advantages.
I found some of the photos/slides absolutely stunning.
I could spend hours looking, some are not worth looking at
but everyone has thier own tastes.

MASH N EM

This has taken a lot of my little brain to figure out.....
But , yeah I did it.
This is really cool - I could play with this all day.
I must admit I did have a play with Google maps,
how fascinating it is.
Ideas are unlimited using Mashups.
Libraries could use these tools for lots of fine things.
I am really excited I worked out how to use this,
as I can see a use at home as well as at work.

This is an IT area that I have never thought about before, let alone use it.

Some of the Podcasts I tried to access, just sat there, going around the

world. Eventually I escaped the British Library as it just was not happenin'.

Maybe this was our IT's problem, or mine - who knows !

The ABC site was fantastic - I am amazed how easily you can

catch programmes that you miss. There is some amazing stuff out there.

Libraries could use Podcast for a variety of presentations, including

author visits/interviews, story time and material/item reviews.

Slamming the boards

Well, here I am Back at blogging after having a spell for (quite) sometime.

Yahoo!7 questions asked are very different. Some of these must be tongue in cheek, with these people having fair toooooo much time on their hands. This shows how impersonal the internet can be.
Answer board Librarians Wiki have far more "real"questions. Most of the questions I looked at I found very interesting, and the answers of great use. The biggest problem I see is that any Librarian from anywhere in the world can answer the questions posted - therefore the information given may not be of any use. Eg. questions asked in Australia can be answered in Canada.

On our local council/library website we have "ask a local librarian", this is used mainly for local and family history queries. Maybe when the patrons are more familiar with the library services on-line, this will be used more.

The tag line "Librarian- we eat questions for breakfast" is great.

My question is - are there any Australian answer boards?

P.S. this thistle is how I feel this week at work- prickly

Week 7 was mostly delicious

Week 7 has taken 2 weeks to complete.
Issues with our network will not allow us to add buttons onto
the tool bar ( or whatever). However, I managed.

Del.icio.us - was very tasty
Here is my del.icio.us web address, del.icio.us/daisydog2008.
Libraries use delicious in many different and interesting ways, including
local history. I am amazed by the amount of subjects that can be found
on this site. I could get lost for hours. I had a great time looking at a
variety of subjects/items.

Technorati - not so interesting
I found numerous difference between 3 different searches.
Searchins nswpln2008. found very few results (maybe our system)
and certainly not my flickr images. Maybe I did some thing wrong!

Library Thing
I ask "so why join the ranks and create your own library
online"?
What is the point ?
I personally think this is useless and a waste of good time.
I have many a book, but I have better things to do with my spare time.
This really is "look at me, look- at- me".

embedding

Hooray, Hooray, at long last, persistance paid off.

This has only taken me about 20 times of trying to embed.

I am over the moon that this has worked.

This was certainly an adventure, and very trying at times.

Embedding

I have given up on this adventure, embedding a
video is just not working for me.
I must have missed the boat somewhere,
çause I just can't get a video to embed.

You Too

What an interesting experience. Have never seen You Tube before,
it was different. Some tubes were interesting and fun, while others
- well what can one say other than some people have way to much
time on their hands.
Could become addictive (maybe).
Great to use when libraries host authors and special occasions.

Wiki

Well here I am at week 5. At the start I really did not know if I wanted to complete this learning programme. But I have really taken on board all the new skills that I have learnt so far. The last few weeks have been a real blast, I am so excited and had such fun with the knowledge I have gained. I am now confident enough to help others with my "new found knowledge". Week 5 was great and the comments of others made me laugh.

RSS

RSS- ING HAS BEEN GREAT FUN. I REALLY HAD NOT HEARD OF RSS BEFORE,THEREFORE HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS OR WHAT IT DID. BUT I HAD A GREAT TIME SEARCHING AND DOWNLOADING. I HAVE EVEN TAUGHT MYSELF (AND OTHER WORKMATES) HOW TO DELETE UNWANTED ITEMS. HOW COOL IS THAT?
I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ASSIST OTHERS WHEN IN TIME OF NEED.
I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED THIS COMPONENT OF THE LEARNING 2.0.

blogging for dummies

I hope that by taking part in the learning program that I will have more technology know how and understand the terminology more, so I can keep up with my daughter.
Life long learning holds great opportunity for people of any age and gender, therefore you are never to old to learn new tricks.
I haven't really had anything to do with blogging before , so therefore I have already learnt how to blog and how it works.
Maybe libraries have some use for blogs (not convinced), the problem is people need computers to find blogs, and many of the older generation don't have and can not use such epuipment, so it is a disadvantage to them.
